A brief biography of Yoshito Mizuno, director of the "Baguazhang Suishikikan"

Yohito Mizuno.Ｄiretor of the "Ｂaguazhang Suishikikan”,the only martial art that preserves the originarl Baguazhang,a martial art used by the imperial court guards of the Qing Dynasty in China.

From his experiences as a student, he continued to focus on ``how weak people can protect their loved ones,'' and began training in Chinese martial arts at the age of 13.A year after starting his training, he met Master “Yang Kezhong”, who teaches “Baguazhang” in the Kanto region, and soon his enthusiasm for martial arts was recognized, and he was given the opportunity to specially learn the “Baguazhang” archetype martial art, “Zhuanzhang”.After three years, on the condition that he continues to practice, he will be recognized for future transmission activities, and will become a ”Zhangjiren”', a conditional successor of the “Zhuanzhang”.

He continued to practice ”Zhuanzhang” without rest during his time as a student and as a working adult, and sometimes worked as a professional security guard, battling wild animals and suspicious people, accumulating experience and training while traveling both within Japan and abroad in search of teachers to retrain his ”Zhuanzhang”.

In his pursuit of “Zhuanzhang” he learns that the technique is almost lost not only in Japan but also in the world.Considering the current situation, he decided to reconstruct "Zhuanzhang" as a martial art intended for use by the weak, incorporating the technical system of defense techniques he learned from Master Yang specifically for weak-bodied Asians.

He continued to practice the basic form "Zhuanzhang Shi" that he learned from Master Yang, as well as the techniques and weapons techniques that use it, and after much struggle and hardship, he reconstructed it into "Yang Family Traditional Zhuanzhang" and revived the technical system as it was when “Zhuanzhang” was first founded by Master “Dong Haichuan”.After that, he gave up his position as a transmitter of “Liang pai Baguazhang”, which he had been permitted to teach, and instead organized his theory around “Zhuanzhang”.He established the "Liang Zhenpu Zhuanahang Style Baguazhang" and became its first “Zhangjiren”.

He is currently based in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, where he teaches the art of ”Zhuanzhang” and ”Zhuanzhang style Baguazhang” as a form of self-defense. In parallel with teaching techniques to protect loved ones and yourself, he continues to share those techniques with the world.

He is the founder of "Woman Right Guard", Japan's first educational institution for training female bodyguards.

History of the "Baguazhang Suishikikan"

Around 2000, he began passing on the "Zhuanzhang" that he had inherited from Master Yang to Mizuno's two children, who would later become his first and foremost disciples.

Around 2017, following the advice of his "Liang Style Baguazhang" teacher to "learn while teaching," he began teaching "Liang Style Baguazhang".At a local community center, she taught 15 people, including students from the women's club.

In 2019, I received formal permission to teach, so I started publicly taking students and teaching them.He named the school "Baguazhang Suishikijuku" and began to fully implement his teaching activities, including placing paid advertisements in local newspapers.The teaching is focused mainly on female students.

In December 2021, a leader of the Baguazhang of the Liang school, whom he did not know, told Master Mizuno, ``If you are going to call yourself a member of the Liang school, show your strength,'' through Master Mizuno's teacher.Immediately after that, Master Mizuno's teacher makes a condition that in order to become a successor of the Liang School Baguasho, he must get permission from the instructor who has told him to show his ability.Then, they are required to go to the dojo of that Liang school teacher outside the prefecture and retrain.

1. There were already several disciples who found value in Baguazhang and learned from it, which was based on the ``transformation'' that Master Yang had taught. 1. The reason why Master Mizuno already had several students who found value in and studied the “Zhuanzhang” style of Baguazhang taught by Master Yang. 2. He had established his own style and didn't feel the need to go to the trouble of going to a master of the Liang School of Baguazhang, a modern martial art that involves physical force. 3. I had doubts about the humanity of a leader who would say something like, ``If you're going to name yourself, show your skills'' to someone you didn't know.For these three reasons, Master Mizuno politely declined to go outside the prefecture.

In January 2022, he was forced to revise the content of his website because it differed from the Liang school tradition. When teaching the "Zhuanzhang" style of Baguazhang, Master Mizuno felt the pointlessness of belonging to the current Baguazhang, which has a fundamentally different principle, and was disgusted by people who were bound by the traditions of modern Baguazhang.

Shortly thereafter, Master Mizuno parted ways with the Liang Style Baguazhang. After confirming with Master Liang that he was the 6th generation of Baguazhang, he parted ways and chose the path of reviving "Zhuanzhang" and creating the "Zhuanzhang Style Baguazhang".

In November 2024, the headquarters of "Baguazhang Shuishikimon" was moved to Kanazawa, Japan, where many disciples truly in need of "Zhuanzhang" live.After the headquarters relocation procedure was completed, the name of the gate was changed to "Baguazhang Suishikikan".
